My Orange Tree!©

My Orange Tree!©

Souls, like plants, are revived by the sunlight and care.  I was feeling sick today and under the weather.  I thought of just calling off going to teach on Monday until I feel better.  Then I looked down from my bedroom window to my garden and saw these magnificent oranges and tangerines alluring me to just pick them up.

I thought of my students on Monday and how lovely it would be to share some of these fresh citrus blessings with them.  Suddenly I had this surge of energy and pulled myself out of bed and went down to the garden with a big bag to pick some fruits.

Instantly the fresh citrus scent revived my soul and rejuvenated my energy.  I felt much better instantly.  And then I peeled an orange and took a bite, heaven!

I thought how in the acts of giving that my orange tree had showed me-with it’s extended boughs laden with the gift of fruits to pick, enjoy, and share- now my aching limbs and tired heart had been energized and healed.  There is nothing like the act of giving and sharing to uplift the soul.  Don’t you all agree?

P.S. Those pictures I just took are as fresh as the fruits they show.  Beautiful California citrus…yummy!

What is a Home?©

What is a Home?©

images

What is a home?

Is it a building of woods and stones,

A place you call your own,

and fill it with furniture?

What is a home?

A property you claim?

An address that has your name,

A location on a map, a dwelling

you share with family members?

No, that is simply not a home.

That is merely a resident,

An occupancy, a retreat.   That is called

A house with just a number,

A zip code, a building on some street.

But what makes a house a home?

Is it the memory that you keep

In a drawer or on a shelf?

Or is it a trinket, an antique

That ornate a corner?  I wonder!

What is a home?

A home is that cinnamon smell

From the apple pie that was

just baked fresh and sizzling

Out from the oven.  It is the warm hearth

Family and friends all  gather

Around, and the air is full of laughter.

A home is a life that we build,

Brick after brick of solid

Dreams, lost and found

And lived as reality.

It is a territory, a privacy

That we own sacred right for,

A sense of belonging.

It is a garden that we tend

With our sweat and love,

Until it grows and bloom.

A home is the roots that run

Deep and strong, anchor and

Shape our lives.©

On a Wing of a Bird!©

On a Wing of a Bird!©

On a wing of a bird

A twinkle of a star

On a ruffle of a wind

Our life goes by.

No matter how we cling,

No matter how high we reach,

How far we can go,

How much we collect,

Or how hard we try.

The moment will flee,

And there will be only

One print, one dint we left

On the fabric of time.

And then we are gone.

Hope & The Jasmine Tree©

Hope & The Jasmine Tree©

Hope is a seed that I planted

Way in the depth of the soil

Of my soul.  It pushes through

The cracks of my heart and grow.

It withers away and shrinks by

Winds of gloom and dismay.

But forever blossom back

Green, fresh, and strong.

For, you see, my hope is a seed

Of an old Jasmine tree-Stubborn and free.

Flowers white fragrance petals in spite of

Frozen snow, blooms betwixt rocks.

I sadly would have to differ

With you, if you are racist.

I differ because I am not,

And sadly because you are.

I stand up for Fairness, for Justice,

For freedom of choice,

I call for Unity, I call for Peace.

I stand up against war.

I stand up for humanity.

What do you stand for?

Trébuchet of Deadly Words©

Trébuchet of Deadly Words©

Ayet 015

And they took their words

Turned them into stones

And trébuchet , trébuchet

Broke my heart.  Rising smoke

And clouds of doubt formed

Above skies of mistrust and hurt.

Looking deep the broken mirror

Of my heart and saw nothing.

This is how it ended.  This is how it died.

Saffron for The Wounded Soul©

Saffron for The Wounded Soul©

A heavy object needs energy to lift it.  A crane can lift the biggest of cargo; yet no matter how mighty it is-it cannot lift up the broken spirit!

How can you mend a broken heart?  How can you lift a sunken spirit? How can you heal a wounded soul?  A smile, an embrace, a hug, a kind word, or wink of sympathy might do the trick.

Today I learned a little secret from the East-A remedy comes in the lightest of form and the most precious and tender plant-Saffron.

It’s been the ancient remedy since the beginning of civilization.  A cup of tea made with few of the precious threads of Saffron and boiled water savored with honey or little ginger- one starts to feel instantly the positive effect,  the warm cup of saffron will work like miracle to elevate your spirit and calm your anxiety.  I don’t mean to say that it is a cure; rather I am trying to say that sometimes we need a little break from the throbbing pain  inside…even if it is only while the cup of tea lasts.  Suddenly, all is well with the world and life is gooood 🙂 Try it out and tell me how it made you feel?

My article is intended to inspire you to sit back and relax and savor a warm cup of tea…pause the worries and the pain and enjoy the warmth that it may provide for you.

It is a blessing that nothing lasts in this life…I like to remember this at times of pain and suffering.

I will only end this post with these verses by Mahjoor Kashmiri:

“O saffron flower! sitting in silent meditation
And radiating the fire of youth,

All others have run away,
Leaving the field for you,
Like the stars hide themselves
When the sun ascends the heavens. ”

Peace be with you all.

I will leave the scientific evident of the many health benefits of Saffron to the reader to research and find out independently.  You may check some of the links provided below:

Seasons of the heart©

Seasons of the heart©

Do not dwell in the moment too long

Leave in mind and thought and go

Anticipate  sunshine after gloom

Nothing stays the same, nothing

As they seem.  Weathered flowers

Bloom..again.. in the seasons of the heart.
