The Mountain

View at snow capped mountains on a cloudy winter day. Time lapse.

As I was approaching

The highland, where the

Road to the Mountain

Starts; I saw the snow capped

Top first. The Mountain stood

There facing the blows of

The wind carving scars on

His face, and he seemed

patiently bearing the

Heavy burden of the

Falling snow over his

Head. I saw the erusion

That this burden made

On every crevice of

The rocks.

Yet, our Mountain stood

Tall and strong. Perhaps

For the deeply rooted

Faith, that the wind

Will evantually soften,

And the snow will

Melt by time.

Where do broken hearts go at night?

When the day buzz dims

Under the heavy blanket of the night,

And the silence reigns over the dark,

The broken hearts awake to nurse

The pains and the aches they masked

During the day.

Motherless children moan,

Widows and widowers groan,

Mothers and fathers hearts ache

Over troublesome kids.

Hearts who lost loved ones,

Hearts who suffer from someone,

Hearts who lost the dreams,

And hearts who yearn for

This which they cannot attain;

Their pain is unbearable.

It’s loud and deep and real.

Pain so real it breaks even

The strongest of hearts.

Broken hearts go down the alleys

Of their memory lane.

Memories of old, and recent

Ones too. Some are solace,

Some are torture to go through.

Only those broken hearts

Who come back and soar

Upward, towards the heaven,

Are saved. Those who kindle

The hope and prayers, start

To heal. Little by little, with

Every morning new, those broken

Hearts mend.

The Golden Shore!

Beyond the horizon

Of a calm azure sea,

I have sailed through

Many storms, here

I am! I rest at the

Golden shore.

Just like the albatross ,

 Riding the winds

Searching, learning,

Growing gradually

Accustomed to the

Turbulence of the

Forever tumbling

Gale. I have reached

The Golden Shore.

Fighting Titans, as I was

Sailing with heavy burdens

like Atlas of long

Before.

I have accepted my role,

Fulfilled my chores, and

Grew and learned and

Befriended the wind, the oceans,

And the waves.

I was awake in my dreams,

I was present in my wake,

And I submitted to my fate

With grace and wisdom.

I saw Medusa through

True mirrors and realized

That its beauty is fake.

I counted stars while

I stood upon the ground

Firm and strong.

I am not Icarus, I understood,

I learned not to

Trust falsehood.

I kept my head straight,

Fish rot from the head

Down, they said. I learned.

Through storms, and alluring

Brass beaches, I fought,

Like a true warrior inviolable.

Like Tarik, who burned all

His ships upon reaching

The Golden Shore.

Shards of Glass Memories

Moments of loss,

Of pain, beyond

Our capacity of

Comprehension, beyond

Our ability to

Understand of

How to deal with them,

Yet we cannot forget.

Instead, we bury

Them deep inside

The deepest layer

Of our being. By time,

We cover these painful

Memories with layers

Upon layers of happenings

In our lives. Nevertheless,

These memories keep hurting

And hurting from deep within. like

shared glass cutting through our skin.

Bleeding deep inside.

THE TREE & THE SEA©

THE TREE & THE SEA©

On a hill, there is a tree

Extending its boughs towards the sea

Yearning for what she cannot reach.
I heard it moaning with
The wind shaking with grieve.
Turning upward away from the soil,
Away from the roots that has been
Her shelter for years.
And the sea?  The sea never heard
Her moaning, never heard of her grieve.

The agony sculpted her tortured

Figure as she stands
Oblivious to her friends,
The caring sun and the loving rain-
Gently sustaining her with care,
Attentively showering her with love.

Falling Men and Cosmic Dust©

Falling Men and Cosmic Dust©

It this world that we live in with all its chaotic disorder, we may feel anxious and have difficulty apprehend a future that is prosperous or safe.  The atrocious massacre of civilians in Aleppo, terrorism, racism and nationalism that seems to be on the rise world wide-all are sore bleeding wounds that shatters our sense of equilibrium and threatens our sense of humanity.

The following words came to my mind:

Have you seen the dark shadow?

Numerous reports confirmed,

All over the globe, of a hollow

Dark smoky mass discerned

To be increasing in size and

Weight on the human chest

Upon encounter.  Sadness,

Sorrow feelings that grow

Within, whenever this object

Flow upon the horizon.

It continues to cause destruction,

Chaos, and despair.  It is in the air,

Polluting our water, deforming our

Spirit, crushing our soul…within and

Wherever it landed.  Piercing shrieks

Are heard precede its arrival spreading

Terror. Humans are forced to their knees,

Covering their ears, void of humanity.

Everyone run for dear life, void of intellect

Or rational thinking.  Hearing no logic,

Listening not to reason.  Feet crushing bodies

As they run away blinded by fear and darkness-

Scattering in horror like wild beasts.

Nations upon nations have succumbed

To defeat-no survivals.  Except those

Who flee, leaving behind memories of

Happiness destroyed & crumbled.

Masses have tried to assemble with candles,

Courageous hearts, extended hands, and hope to

Defeat this Dark Hollow Shadow.  Their light

Was not strong enough, their hearts were not courageous

Enough, their hands were trembling, and the hope was crushed.

Years and years went by, and the darkness increased and persisted.

Down beneath the ashes, a flicker of light had survived.

A child, an innocent being, not yet corrupted by the Darkness-noticed

It and removed the ashes.  Many hearts, souls, and hands were extended

Towards it.  As one man, they all moved towards the light to protect it.

They tended to it with unity and love until it grew and grew to resemble the hope

That was crushed long ago.  Together they hold the light up towards darkness,  Guided and strong they marched.

Their cheers shook the land, their words echoed throughout the globe:

“Divided no more, divided we have fallen and fallen.  United

Now and always, we stand.”

My Orange Tree!©

My Orange Tree!©

Souls, like plants, are revived by the sunlight and care.  I was feeling sick today and under the weather.  I thought of just calling off going to teach on Monday until I feel better.  Then I looked down from my bedroom window to my garden and saw these magnificent oranges and tangerines alluring me to just pick them up.

I thought of my students on Monday and how lovely it would be to share some of these fresh citrus blessings with them.  Suddenly I had this surge of energy and pulled myself out of bed and went down to the garden with a big bag to pick some fruits.

Instantly the fresh citrus scent revived my soul and rejuvenated my energy.  I felt much better instantly.  And then I peeled an orange and took a bite, heaven!

I thought how in the acts of giving that my orange tree had showed me-with it’s extended boughs laden with the gift of fruits to pick, enjoy, and share- now my aching limbs and tired heart had been energized and healed.  There is nothing like the act of giving and sharing to uplift the soul.  Don’t you all agree?

P.S. Those pictures I just took are as fresh as the fruits they show.  Beautiful California citrus…yummy!

A Remedy of Words!©

A Remedy of Words!©

The words are hammering

Humming loud and persisting

To be let out.  Hauling a heavy

Load of thoughts and feelings.

Say it right.  There is

Doubt?  Will they be misunderstood?

Will they sound appealing?

Come forth, say the truth.

Speak your mind, I say.

How else you would be heard?

Mind your words, say it gently.

Be kind.  Articulate and then,

Those wonderful words you

have carefully said, will be your healing.©

Hope & The Jasmine Tree©

Hope & The Jasmine Tree©

Hope is a seed that I planted

Way in the depth of the soil

Of my soul.  It pushes through

The cracks of my heart and grow.

It withers away and shrinks by

Winds of gloom and dismay.

But forever blossom back

Green, fresh, and strong.

For, you see, my hope is a seed

Of an old Jasmine tree-Stubborn and free.

Flowers white fragrance petals in spite of

Frozen snow, blooms betwixt rocks.

Saffron for The Wounded Soul©

Saffron for The Wounded Soul©

A heavy object needs energy to lift it.  A crane can lift the biggest of cargo; yet no matter how mighty it is-it cannot lift up the broken spirit!

How can you mend a broken heart?  How can you lift a sunken spirit? How can you heal a wounded soul?  A smile, an embrace, a hug, a kind word, or wink of sympathy might do the trick.

Today I learned a little secret from the East-A remedy comes in the lightest of form and the most precious and tender plant-Saffron.

It’s been the ancient remedy since the beginning of civilization.  A cup of tea made with few of the precious threads of Saffron and boiled water savored with honey or little ginger- one starts to feel instantly the positive effect,  the warm cup of saffron will work like miracle to elevate your spirit and calm your anxiety.  I don’t mean to say that it is a cure; rather I am trying to say that sometimes we need a little break from the throbbing pain  inside…even if it is only while the cup of tea lasts.  Suddenly, all is well with the world and life is gooood 🙂 Try it out and tell me how it made you feel?

My article is intended to inspire you to sit back and relax and savor a warm cup of tea…pause the worries and the pain and enjoy the warmth that it may provide for you.

It is a blessing that nothing lasts in this life…I like to remember this at times of pain and suffering.

I will only end this post with these verses by Mahjoor Kashmiri:

“O saffron flower! sitting in silent meditation
And radiating the fire of youth,

All others have run away,
Leaving the field for you,
Like the stars hide themselves
When the sun ascends the heavens. ”

Peace be with you all.

I will leave the scientific evident of the many health benefits of Saffron to the reader to research and find out independently.  You may check some of the links provided below:
